The Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra has long established itself as one of the leading institutes in the musical life of Bulgaria, representative of our entire contemporary music culture. The high artistic achievements and the active concert activity in our country and around the world attract both the traditional audience and more and more young connoisseurs of classical music.

In its eighty-nine years of creative history, the Sofia Philharmonic has passed a long intensive path of artistic growth, associated with the names of prominent musicians such as Sasha Popov, Konstantin Iliev, Dobrin Petkov, Vasil Stefanov, Vasil Kazandjiev, Vladi Simeonov, Dimitar Mano Dafov, Emil Tabakov, Yulian Kovachev, Martin Panteleev.

Unforgettable in the annals of the Philharmonic are the joint work with personalities such as conductors Herman Abendrot, Kurt Mazur, Sir Neville Mariner, Valery Gergiev, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Yuri Simonov, Yuri Temirkanov, Igor Markevich, Carlo Ceki, Charles Bruck, Heinz Bonzgar Rovicki, Janos Ferenczyk, Leopold Hager, György Lechel, Karl Österreicher, Jean-Bernard Pomier, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Uros Lajowitz and others.

Soloists of the orchestra were Gena Dimitrova, Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, Sonya Yoncheva, Krassimira Stoyanova, Veselina Katsarova, Dimitri Shostakovich, David Oistrakh, Svetoslv Richter, Emil Gilels, Alexis Weissenberg, Mpislav Vladpoem Clara-Jumy Kang, Shura Cherkaski, Ani Fischer, Ruggiero Richie, Eugene Istomin, Andre Navarra, Philip Quint, Dimitris Sguros, Josef Palenicek, Wanda Wilkomirska, Pierre Sankan, Frederick Gevers, Rudolf Kerer, Josef Souk, Joko Souk, Joo Suk, Yo Sekeira Costa, Janos Shebestein, Nathaniel Rosen, Julian Rahlin, Andrew Mariner and dozens of other world-famous foreign and Bulgarian artists.
The repertoire of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra includes works from all over the world music literature - from classics to the most modern opuses, including premiere performances of dozens of Bulgarian works.

Started more than half a century ago / 1939 / with its tours abroad, the Sofia Philharmonic has serious authority and recognition around the world. She has successfully performed in the largest music centers in Europe, Asia, America, greeted by the most demanding audience with loud acclamations.

The recording activity of the Philharmonic related to the companies "Balkanton", "Gega", "Naxos", "Supraphon", "Elan", "Frekvenz", "Koch", "Mega", "Capriccio" and others has very high marks. as well as recordings in Radio Paris, Radio Berlin, Radio Moscow, Radio Munich, the Bulgarian National Radio and the Bulgarian National Television.

The Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra has been awarded a number of prestigious prizes, including Musician of the Year / BNR, 2002 /, Golden Lyre / 2003 /, Golden Five-Line / 2005 /, Crystal Lyre / 2006, 2009, and 2016 / the prestigious award "Sofia Award" / 2011 /, with the high award of Sofia Municipality - Honorary Badge of the Capital. / 2013 /, with the Badge of Honor of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria / 2014
